After splitting a Great Yankee Chicken Burger four-ways at New York New York… (That burger was MASSIVE)

Sarah: Ugh. I’m so full, I feel like I’m going to give birth to a bunch of little chicken burgers.

Anyway, so my job-free days are now filled with exciting adventures around Singapore. Managed to visit the Quest for Immortality exhibition last week, but I’ve been too lazy to post the photos because it’s such a tedious process. I don’t know how other people can patiently insert the memory card into the computer, pick out the photos they want out of the hundreds, upload them onto a photo-hosting website (which takes an eternity), crop/resize/photoshop the photos, copy-paste the codes onto blogger/wordpress/livejournal and manually refer back and forth between the two websites to make sure you’re writing about the photo that you’ve just copied-pasted. I could study my entire A level curriculum again within that time-frame.

Eh ignore the dude over there, didn’t realize he was in the photo.

Origami section where you can fold your own pyramids, but I think they just look like cones.
My pyramid and Shane’s pyramid.

They killed and ate giraffes! :(
Shane figured that the symbols represented some kind of recipe, like knife/blade = kill, duck = kill the duck, frying pan = cook the duck.

Anyway the exhibition was a bit “meh”, but we found a really awesome book at the souvenir shop which showed all the vintage Singaporean stuff, like photos of cinemas back in the 70s and the advertisements and products sold back then. One of the other books even had revamped recipes of food that was often cooked during Singapore’s war-time. Was really tempted to buy, but somehow I think it’d end up like the Six Feet Under book I got – pretty and nice to look at for the first couple of times but will end up sitting on my shelf gathering dust.

We came across this creepy advertisement to promote vegetable-eating habits in children. What the hell, what kid would be enticed to eat carrots after seeing this creepy dancing old carrot?! Good grief, look at its/his(?) shoes! Look at the supposed beauty mole on his ankle! Anthropomorphism is just plain weird. But I thought it was funny that Doctor Carrot had a cleft chin haha.

We found out that there was an on-going exhibition upstairs on Singapore in the olden days, which turned out to be quite awesome and unlike those melodramatic museums of Singapore during war-times that they always make us go to when we were in primary school. Remember tutu cakes when we were younger?! Mmm.

Shane: What the hell, this is obviously a man in drag.
Me: Yah!
Then we watched the video that was located behind the painting, which was pretty what-the-hell because they didn’t explain anything at all about the painting except for the first 5 seconds when it simply stated that it’s actually some princess (oops) of Johor of Turkish descent, then it went on to show an interview of an old inter-racial couple. Heh?! But the old couple was quite sweet.

Awesome exhibition of the old plastic bags/paper bags used back in the olden days.

Places to explore or things to do next: Bird Park/Zoo/Underwater World, possibly Zorbing (looks hilariously fun, couldn’t stop laughing when Denise told me to check it out), and of course, London!

I am ^_^ and @_@.
I was excited at first, now I’m scared shitless. I have to sound worldly and knowledgeable at the interview, which means hopefully no bimbo moments will surface, like, “Ehh… [insert country's name]? Is that a kind of pie?” Sigh.

Annoying Technology

Ugh I just got an Omnia II to replace my phone that kept rebooting itself and iPod that has way too little space for all my music, and it’s driving me nuts. Maybe it’s a female thing but I’m totally not cut-out for all these technological thingies. I can’t figure out how to “Sync” my “device” with the PC and whatever shit, I just don’t get it. Both the manual and google don’t help either. The files appear in my computer, they “sync” in windows media player and appear in the Omnia file thing but it just doesn’t appear in the phone itself! Christ. Think I should have gotten a simpler phone to suit my technologically-impaired mind.

Solved by a tech-savvy friend! :D

TAC

Photobucket

Denise, Elizabeth, Eunice and I have formed The Adventure Club (thereafter known as TAC) in an effort to utilize our break fully and explore Singapore. I haven’t been to anywhere significant in Singapore since I was in primary school when they brought us to like the zoo or the discovery center etc. I miss school excursions!

So, our first TAC adventure was held in Botanic Gardens, at 8am (boy it’s been an extremely long while since I’ve woken up at a time when the morning sky still resembled the night sky). Stupid me finally realized that the size of the photos can be controlled on Photobucket, so no more too-big photos anymore.

I don’t know why a statue of Chopin is in the Botanic Gardens, but the condensation on the statue made it look like sweat, hehe.

So, our first adventure was a success! (To me) Though we met at 8am, the sun became unbearable quite quickly so our walk didn’t last very long. We walked to McDonald’s, stuffed our faces with breakfast, and came over to my place to watch a couple of episodes of House, all before 2pm. I’ve forgotten how much can be done in a day when one wakes up early enough. TAC should take up yoga or pilates next! Hehe. Anyway, I’m totally enjoying all the free time I have, I don’t care what anyone says about me not having a job! I’m a bum for the next few months and I love it. Amanda did introduce me to a temp job though, a good way to earn some cash before the London trip. Awesome, I’m totally enjoying my life now.

As for university applications, I’m still quite uncertain about my choices even after attending the open houses and bombarding the people there with questions. I only know for sure what I don’t want to do, not what I really want to do, aside from all the other courses that I’m not qualified for (ie. medicine, engineering – all the science-y courses). I guess the only 2 things that have captured my interest are law and architecture, but it’s difficult to say because they both cater to entirely different areas of interest. Plus, some aspects of both courses appeal to me, some other aspects don’t… So much shit to consider, I hate it.
Oh well, whether I’m ready for it or not, applications will have to be done soon…

Drama Moment

After trying to find out more about architecture (as a course in university, the aptitude test and interview, and as a career), it’s not looking promising.

Firstly, extremely tough to get in (80 students per intake). Also, horribly hectic as a course in university with piles of projects, which probably means that taking the course would entail numerous nights of crying and late-night coffee drinks. Then, creating 3D models for the aptitude test (so I have to learn how to like fold paper into cuboids?!) and providing a portfolio for the interview (too little time left, need to start churning out good sketches ASAP). THEN, low pay for a shit load of work, unless you’re like the Pablo Picasso of architects.

Shit, this is more worrisome than waiting for A level results, this is deciding what you want to do for the next 40 years. I don’t know if I am willing to pursue a potentially unsatisfying career (unfortunately, one’s pay is ultimately quite relevant to how satisfied one is with his career) for a chance to study what I like. Then again, I don’t know if I am willing to pursue a satisfying career (ie. business etc) if it means having to study what I’ve zero interest in. Life sucks, why can’t interests ever equate to a happy career. Then there are a whole lot of other choices yet to be explored – mass comm? Possibly law (but not likely)? Business? Psychology? Blah blah?

And we have to make this life-changing decision at 19?!
Hello, I don’t even know what I want for lunch tomorrow (Hmm but pasta sounds good), let alone what I want to do for the next three-quarters of my life!

The Results

FUCK YEAH!
So bloody relieved, and I’m extremely glad that some of my friends are happy too.
Math was a pleasant surprise that totally popped out of nowhere. In year 2, the barrier beyond an E grade seemed impossible break and my tuition teacher had begun to conveniently replace himself with an A level graduate who was a pretty crappy teacher, and I thought for sure that the huge number of China Scholars and Science fac overachievers would conquer the grade A range so… FUCK YEAH.

But unfortunately my other huge worry did come true in the end, a pretty realistic thing to worry about since it’s a lot harder to do well in A levels, as compared to the O levels where everyone got fantastic results. So, friends who are upset, honestly, just remember there will always be someone out there who did a whole lot worse, and REALLY, everything will work out fine in the end, plus my sister works at the NUS Admin office so, bomb me with questions about NUS if you need to.

Anyway attached to the results slip was a reminder about library fines.
Meh.

Wish Come True!

I’ve often wished that there was a club or pub in Singapore that had a 70’s or 80’s theme.

Now, my friend tells me that there’s one that EXISTS! He says it’s called The Pump Room, in Clarke Quay, and it plays 70’s and 80’s music all night long, although the crowd there is a little older.
BUT OH MY GOD, I. MUST. VISIT.

Retirement Plan

I used to think that when I retire, I will move to New Zealand and be a kiwi farmer (which, in retrospect, isn’t such a good idea because most major farms are operated by capital and not by manual labour anymore, plus I’d get sick of digging and reaping the crops especially at such an old age, I’d break my back. Yeah okay it’s a shitty idea). But now I have a new retirement dream – move to London and run a bed and breakfast!

We managed to find a really good bed and breakfast in Bath called the Apple Tree Guest House for a reasonable price, and the reviews are totally exciting (chocolate bars in the rooms! I like). Apparently this couple runs the B&B and they do all the cooking, cleaning, customer service etc. This is too cute – running a small business with my future husband, meeting new people everyday and hanging out at parks in my free time, I think I’d like that kind of life.

But anyway, back to the present – A level results. Sigh.
